Samia Errazzouki

Samia Errazzouki's research focuses on histories of race, slavery, and capitalism during the early modern period. Her current project examines the nascent history of the global sugar economy during the sixteenth century by centering Northwest Africa as an integral site in the transformation of sugar from a luxury for the few to a commodity for the many. She is interested in forging new historiographical spaces that challenge existing taxonomies in order to better understand transregional connections. Samia's teaching portfolio includes African history, global racial capitalism, critical theory, and histories of slavery.
